Families of Fire-fighters Demanding Eight Million Kuna in Damages
Zagreb, January 29 (CP) – The families of 12 fire-fighters who had died at Veliki Kornat on August 30, 2007 are demanding a total of eight million kuna in damages.
If the court accepts the claims filed by the families, the local authorities in Vodice and Tisno will have to pay up, reports the Slobodna Dalmacija daily.
No one from the authorities was ready to comment on the delicate issue.
The fire-fighters died in a horrific accident, when after being called in to put out a fire on the Veliki Kornat island they got caught up in a fire ring, not being able to escape.
The youngest victim was just 17 and there were also two 18-year-olds among the dead. All of those killed were members of local voluntary fire-fighters organisations in Vodice and Tisno.
