Jelko Kacin Accuses Sanader of Lying; Croatian Gvt Rejects Claims
Zagreb, February 2 (CP) – The Slovene European Parliament member and rapporteur for Serbia, Jelko Kacin told Deutsche Welle and Slovene Television that Croatian PM Ivo Sanader needs to face up and tell Croatians the truth about the relations between Croatia and Italy.
Kacin is claiming that Italy is demanding the reconsidering of maritime borders between the two countries around islets of Jabuka and Palagruza and the island of Vis, which would change the fishery zones.
Kacin claims that once Sanader explains the issue, it will become vivid that Croatia is the one who is making problems for itself and not Slovenia.
Kacin also spoke of the Croatian justice system saying that bad things happening within the judiciary were being swept under the carpet and said he wished all the best to current Justice Minister Ana Lovrin in the process of justice system reforms which are one of the key provisions for Croatia’s EU entry.
Kacin accused Croatia of publicly speaking of speeding up EU negotiations, but actually doing everything not to make any progress.
He added that if Serbia was moving quickly towards its accession talks that would motivate Croatia to speed up its talks with Brussels, to aviod being admitted to the EU as part of a package with Serbia.
In reaction to Kacin’s claim, the government spokesperson Zlatko Mehun denied Sanader was lying to the public, while the Foreign Ministry has said the claims were not even worth commenting on, adding that head of diplomacy Gordan Jandrokovic would be resolving issues with Slovenia speaking to officials of the same level.
