Justice Minister Explains How Illegal Fishing in ZERP Can Be Punished
February 3rd, 2008
Zagreb, February 3 (CP) – The Justice Minister Ana Lovrin has said speaking to Croatian Television (HTV) that in line with the Convention on the Law of the Sea and the relevant law adopted – the Maritime Code, Croatia has the right to protect its natural wealth in the Protected Ecology and Fisheries Belt (ZERP) area.
The Code also stipulates which relevant Croatian bodies can act in protecting the natural wealth in this particular area i.e. ZERP.
This comes in response to claims published in the Jutarnji List daily that legal provisions within the Croatian legislation do not allow for the police to punish illegal fishing in the Protected Ecology and Fisheries Belt in the Adriatic (ZERP).
