Some 70 Percent of Households Have Inadequate Incomes

Zagreb, February 4 (CP) – According to a Gfk Hrvatska poll, some 70 percent of Croatian households are not making enough money.

An average household made about 6,370 kuna (€887) per month in 2007 with those in the Lika area, Kordun and Banovina making €688 and those in Zagreb managing €1,089.

Compared to 2006, the segment of households that have income higher than necessary to meet the basic needs has dropped to seven percent from 9, while 13 percent of households make just enough to cover their needs which is the same as 2006.

Some three quarters of households are having problems with meeting their monthly financial obligations and should earn about 78 percent more in order to cover them.

Apart from household payments and food, costs of clothing, telecommunications and transport are topping the list of needs that are attempted to be covered.

All costs have risen in 2007 compared to 2006 with somewhat less money going to covering clothing, fixed telephony bills and savings, but stayed at the same level for culture, recreation and saving.
