Buje Municipality Confirms Selling Land in South of the Dragonja River, Claiming the Plots Were Croatian
Zagreb, February 29 (AP) – Following the Slovene media report that the Croatian municipality of Buje had been selling land that is owned by Slovenia and leased by Slovene Josko Joras, the Buje municipality officials have confirmed the sale saying the sold land south of the Dragonja River was Croatian land.
Three owners were sold 16,000 square meters of land, the sale approved by the relevant ministry and state attorney’s office.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mario Dragun said Croatia did not want to officially react to the media articles through which Slovenia was creating tension over the border dispute.
Dragun added that the initiative was launched from Josko Joras, a controversial figure, so it was right for the Ministry to ignore it.
Josko Joras has been claiming that land plots south of the Dragonja River are Slovene property and he had been flying the Slovene flag in the village of Mlini where he lives on several occasions, despite it being Croatian territory that both sides are claiming.
