Austrian Supreme Court Rules that Zagorec Can Be Extradited to Croatia
Zagreb, March 6 (CP) – The Austrian Supreme Court has confirmed the decision of two Austrian lower courts that ret. Croatian army Gen. Vladimir Zagorec can be extradited to Croatia.
However, the Zagorec defence team is to demand that the procedure on extradition be repeated and it is yet to be decided whether the case will be re-examined.
The defence is explaining the latest move by saying that the Supreme Court had adopted all the evidence proposals of the prosecution and none of the defence and if the case was to be returned to a lower court, the defence would be given an opportunity to put forth all the new evidence it had proposed.
Zagorec is suspected of embezzling $5 million upon leaving Defence Ministry deputy ministerial post in 2000.
