Austria Bans Concert by Croatian Singer/Songwriter Marko ‘Thompson’ Perkovic
Zagreb, April 25 (CP) – The Austrian authorities have decided to ban the concert planned for June 7 by Croatian singer/songwriter Marko ‘Thompson’ Perkovic.
The concert planned to be held in St. Andrae in south Carinthia, prior to the start of EURO 2008 was deemed as a heightened risk to public security, as it could spark clashes between football supporters.
The Austrian APA news agency reporting on the ban has explained that the Thompson’s lyrics had neo-fascist overtones and some even came from the Ustashe repertoire. It also describes them as controversial and some as being clearly neo-fascist.
Another Thompson concert that was to be held in the Zurich canton in Switzerland on June 11 has also been banned for the same reasons.
