One ICTY Indictee, Rahim Ademi Acquitted; The Other, Mirko Norac Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison
Zagreb, May 30 (CP) – The two Croatian army generals Rahim Ademi and Mirko Norac indicted by the ICTY for crimes committed during the Medak pocket operation have heard the court ruling which has acquitted Ademi and sentenced Norac to seven years in prison.
Judge Marin Mrcela explained that while Ademi had not had full commanding responsibility and was thus acquitted, Norac was the commander of Sector 1, which makes his responsible for events during the operation.
Norac has the right to lodge an appeal with the Supreme Court. He is already in jail serving a 12-year sentence for war crimes committed in Gospic.
The trial of the two Croatian generals began exactly a year ago with this being the first of the trial to be transferred to the Croatian judiciary from The Hague Tribunal (ICTY).
