Adrial Offer Acceptable to TLM

Zagreb, January 30 (CP) — The TLM Sibenik-based aluminium producer management is considering accepting Adrial’s takeover bid. The offered price of 140 kuna per share is said to be appropriate. Adrial is planning to keep 1,400 workers and invest 107 million euro into the company.

Adrial was founded by the Dalekovod,  Konstruktor-inzinjering, Aluflexpakc, Feal and Zagreb Montaza consortium.
 

Slovene Fishing Boats Found in Croatian Waters

Zagreb, January 30 (CP) — Two Slovene fishing boats were found in the early afternoon on Wednesday some 0.8 nautical miles into Croatian territorial waters, confirmed the Istria region police. The police was informed of the incident by Savudrija fishermen.

 When the police vessel arrived on the scene, the two Slovene boats were 1.3 nautical miles into Croatian territorial waters and left around 1 p.m.

Sanader: Rupel Has Crossed the Line

Zagreb, January 30 (CP) — The PM Ivo Sanader has said that the Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel has crossed the line of in regular diplomatic relations between two countries.

Sanader denied Rupel’s claims that Croatia had severed diplomatic ties with Slovenia and said the only person doing that was Rupel, himself.

Sanader added that back in August of 2007, the chief Croatian EU negotiator Vladimir Drobnjak requested a meeting at the Slovene Foreign Ministry, but had still until this day not been allocated a time-slot. 

Sanader said that, for example, France, which is to head the EU as of July 1 had allocated a time-slot for Croatia back in December.

Fuel Fumes Kill Oil Refinery Worker

Zagreb, January 30 (CP) — An INA oil company worker in the Urinje oil refinery died in the Rijeka hospital from inhaling poisonous gas fumes, announced the state alert centre.

According to the local police in the Primorje and Gorski Kotar county, the investigation into the accident is under way, as it is not clear how it happened.

The reservoir vent has been shut and INA is to also conduct a detailed investigation into what caused the tragedy.

Lowering of Prices Agreed

Zagreb, January 30 (CT) — The PM Ivo Sanader announced after a meeting of the Price Increase Monitoring Committee that the government could vouch that there would be no changes in the price of gas for households until the summer, while the same has still not been confirmed for commercial clients.

The Committee made up of government representatives and social partners has agreed on a rollback of bread prices of up to 12 percent, as well as cooking oil and fresh milk.
 

Price Monitoring Committee Meeting in Zagreb

Zagreb, January 30 (CP) — The committee for monitoring price increases in Croatia is meeting again today in a broader session.

Government cabinet members, representatives from unions, employers and consumers associations will be meeting along with the chief state inspector and city representatives, which have prepared an analysis of price increases for utilities.

Prime Minister Ivo Sanader is chairing the meeting held at the Economy Ministry.

Bosnia-Herzegovina Wants Its Property Back

Zagreb, January 30 (CP) — The Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency president Zeljko Komsic has announced his country would not give up its claim to the former children’s hospital in Cavtat near Dubrovnik and would contact, regarding the issue, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader.

The landplot and the children’s hospital building are situated in a particulary nice spot by the sea.

High Jumper Blanka Vlasic Wins Goteborg Meet

Zagreb, January 30 (CP) — Croatian high jumper Blanka Vlašić took first place at the indoor athletics meet being held in Goteborg Sweden.
By clearing 201 centimetres Vlašić set a new event recond winning for the second year in a row. 
 

Union Representatives Hold Price Hike Protest

Zagreb, January 30 (CP) — A rally of warning is being staged in front of the Zagreb city authorities building by some 200 trade unions’ representatives in protest against the latest rise in utility prices in the capital.

The unions’ representatives are claiming that the legal procedure has not been followed in the process of price increases.

Foreign Ministry Reacts to Rupel’s Claims

Zagreb, January 30 (CP) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has refuted claims by Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel who said that over the past few months Croatia had practically severed diplomatic relations with Slovenia and that there has been no contact between the two countries’ foreign ministries for six months.  

This type of statement does not contribute to the strengthening of freindly and good-neighbourly relations between the two countries nor does it contribute to the creation of a positive atmosphere for resolving open issues, said the Ministry.  

During discussion at European Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee on Tuesday regarding Croatia’s Ecological and Fisheries Protection Zone in the Adriatic, European MP Doris Pack said that she did not understand why there was a problem with Croatia’s zone, since all three Italy, Slovenia and Croatia have declared ecological zones but now everyone was blaming Croatia.
